Deworming Services for Pets

Deworming is a preventative treatment that protects your pet from parasites. Medications are usually taken orally (sometimes an injection is administered to kill worms), at a regular dosing schedule depending on you and your pet’s preference and lifestyle. The medications work to kill worms in your pet’s gut, as well as larvae that may have made their way inside your pet. As you can tell by its name, deworming medications are primarily used to prevent and get rid of parasitic worms, although they can also help with other types of parasites.

Ensuring that your pet is updated on their deworming medication and schedule is key to maintaining their health and well-being. Worms and other parasites can cause a wide variety of unwanted symptoms in your pet such as skin issues, loss of appetite and other diseases. Aside from causing harm to your loyal companion, parasites can also cause harm to you and other people that your pet may come in contact with. For example, certain species of the parasite called coccidia can be transmitted from pets to humans.

As a general rule of thumb, pets should be dewormed at least 3 times per year. They should not go more than 3 months between each deworming treatment. That being said, different deworming schedules are needed for pets at different stages of their lives. Puppies, for instance, should be dewormed approximately every 2 weeks until they are 8 weeks old. Then, once they are 12-weeks-old and above, they can be dewormed every 3 months. Depending on your puppy’s health, veterinarians may even advise for them to be dewormed every month until they are 6-months-old.
