Microchipping

A microchip can provide a lifetime of permanent identification if your dog or cat gets lost.

As pet owners, we all worry about the safety and well-being of our loyal companions. And we plan accordingly. Many of us, for example, install locks and special entrances for our dogs and cats so they can safely and easily enter and exit our homes. That being said, accidents happen and your pet may break free from their leash or sneak out of your home when you are not looking. When your pet is microchipped, they will have permanent identification thus increasing your chances of being reunited with them, should these accidents occur.

How does pet microchipping work?

Microchipping is a quick and pain-free procedure. The microchip, which is the size of a grain of rice, is implanted under your pet’s skin, usually in between their shoulder blades. The microchip contains details about your pet, as well as your personal information.

Is a pet microchip like a GPS?

Not exactly. The microchip will not let you know your pet’s location at all times. Instead, when your pet is found and brought into an animal hospital or shelter, the microchip can be scanned and those temporarily caring for your pet will have a way to reach out to you. In this way, the microchip is not like a GPS locator, rather it is like a permanent identification card.
