Our team is committed to maintaining your furry friend’s overall health. Making sure they have a strong immunity all throughout their lives is a key step in any cat’s health care plan. Without proper vaccination, your pet can be vulnerable to several kinds of diseases which involve expensive and time-consuming treatments
Vaccinations for Kittens
When should kittens get their first vaccines?
We recommend that your feline friend receive their first round at 6 to 8 weeks of age.
How often does my kitten need to be vaccinated?
Kittens should be vaccinated every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 16-weeks-old. Repeat rounds of vaccines are needed to ensure and maximize their efficacy.
Do I really need to vaccinate my pet? Why is vaccination so important?
Absolutely, especially for kittens whose immune systems have not yet fully developed. Vaccines will shelter your kitten from the most common diseases that affect cats such as rabies, calicivirus, feline distemper, respiratory infections and even the leukemia virus. Vaccines are an essential component of any pet’s health program.
Can I get away with only giving my pet the core vaccines?
Keep in mind that aside from protecting your pet, vaccines play a crucial role in protecting you, your loved ones, and other pets. Every cat is different and depending on their lifestyle and unique health needs, we may recommend additional vaccines to provide proper protection for your pet. Feel free to ask our veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians about the various vaccine options for your cat, either at your next consultation or by calling us at 260-926-0006.
Vaccinations for Cats
My cat already received vaccines when he/she was a kitten. Do they still need vaccines as adults?
To safeguard their wellbeing all throughout their lives, it is still crucial that your pet continues to receive their vaccines. Just because they have matured, does not mean that their immunity no longer needs help and boosting.
How often does an adult cat need to be vaccinated?
As a general rule of thumb, cats need to be revaccinated every one to three years. That being said, all cats are different and how often they may need to be treated depends on things such as their lifestyle and any conditions they may have. For this reason, regular full body examinations are crucial, so that we can assess and decide if it is time for your pet to receive a “booster” shot, as the effects of previous vaccinations can wear off over time.
Do indoor cats need to be vaccinated?
Absolutely! Even if your feline friend’s territory is 100% indoors in your home, or condo, they can still be vulnerable to certain diseases and conditions if they are not properly vaccinated. Certain vaccines are required for all cats, regardless of their living conditions. The FVRCP vaccine, for instance, is recommended for all cats as it protects against feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia. There are even vaccines that are required by law (e.g. rabies), depending on which jurisdiction you are under.
